Dyslexia

Dyslexia means word blindness. The term Dyslexia is considered a useful label to identify certain children who have reading difficulties and who require learning support. International statistics suggest a 3% - 10% incidence of dyslexia. Dyslexia is diagnosed by an educational psychologist who identifies marked underachievement in the language skills of reading, writing and spelling commensurate with their level of intelligence. Many people with dyslexia have average or above average intelligence. Symptoms of dyslexia include: problem learning to read, letter confusion, omission of letters or word endings when spelling, inconsistent spelling where the same word is spelt in different ways, adding or deleting syllables or vowels when reading, spelling or writing, directional problems when writing.
